Conversion Services Pre-Plan Development
Remote Access TM relies on two primary pieces of information to integrate all associated databases and information: digital pre-plans and digital maps.
Digital Pre-Plans
Since the mid-1970's, fire departments have been developing pre-incident planning information, typically comprised of an on-site inspection, the creation of a building schematic, and supporting text-based data on occupancy, hazards, construction, etc. This information is collectively referred to as a Pre-Plan.
In recent years, due to tragic events at Columbine High School and elsewhere, SWAT teams have also begun collecting pre-plan information to support tactical response. In most cases, the SWAT team needs similar information as the fire department, but additional data is collected concerning staging, power shutoffs, access to on-site surveillance opportunities, etc.
Remote Access TM requires digital pre-plans, where the hand drawn sketches have been digitized into a computer graphics software application. When you have your drawings available in a computer graphics system, they can be directly imported. For those departments that do not have their drawings already converted, or those that have fallen behind in their pre-planning due to growth or resource issues, Group 1 can help in two ways:
- Conversion of your hand drawn pre-plans: Group 1 will take your run books and convert them into AutoCAD, the industry standard graphics package. Group 1's conversion staff is very experienced in converting these drawings, and adding standardization to the variations typically found in drawings.
- Conversion of architectural permit drawings: Our teams of dedicated pre-plan conversion specialists know what to look for in an architectural drawing. Having created pre-plans from many thousands of drawings for fellow fire departments and SWAT teams, our dedicated pre-plan conversion teams get the drawings done quickly, and right the first time.

Digital Maps
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become prolific in all levels of government. The benefit this technology offers for many individual departments is significant. Public Safety, as well as utilities, has traditionally been one of the last areas to benefit from GIS.
Remote Access TM uses the GIS to link building and site information, other specific map layers such as aerial photography, AVL and GPS tracking, etc. For organizations that do not yet have a GIS, or are at a development level that cannot support in-vehicle implementation, Group 1 offers its conversion staff and extensive GIS expertise.
With our consultants, Group 1 can provide the technical and operational capabilities to compliment your internal efforts. Our consulting team can help develop long-term implementation plans, cost expectations, new technology integration, and project management.
Through our conversion and development staff, Group 1 can act as an independent source for GIS development. Outsourcing components of a GIS can be beneficial if you do not have the internal staff to complete the work in a timely manner, or are lacking the internal expertise to expand into new development areas.
